$85.00Hand-carved statues — Yoruba figures and offering vessels shaped from a single block of wood, worked with chisels and gouges rather than turned out on a machine. Each piece carries the marks of the tool that made it: the grain it was cut across, the slight asymmetry of a figure that was never measured twice.
The kneeling figures hold a bowl for offerings. That posture is not decoration. In Yoruba carving the kneeling woman is the one who presents — she holds what is given and lifts it up, which is why so many of these pieces are built around a vessel rather than a face. The Eshu Eleguá figure stands at the crossroads instead, guardian of the door and of the choice made at it.
Every statue here is carved in the tradition and finished by hand, but none is consecrated — that work belongs to your initiation and to your elders, and a carving should never arrive claiming to have done it for you.
